College Planning
The college application process can be confusing. It is our hope that you
will contact us often as we attempt to guide you through the paper work over the
next few months. We recommend that students and their parents/guardians meet
with the principal during junior year to formulate a plan of action and keep in
close contact during the senior year. Towle Institute offers a Junior Parent
Night designed to help you begin the planning process. The following list
provides you with some of the steps student and their parents/guardians will go
through over the next few months.
Spring of Junior Year
- Juniors should register to take the SAT I and/or II's this May and/or
June. Many students will repeat these exams during the fall of their senior
year. Registration can be done over the Internet. Our school code is
080071.
- Juniors should meet with the principal to discuss researching colleges or
any colleges they are currently considering. Parents are encouraged to
attend this individual planning session.
- Students and parents should make college visits during the spring and
summer of junior year and the fall of senior year. Students who currently
don't have any specific colleges in mind should visit some local colleges.
This often helps students to determine which characteristics are important
to them and ultimately helps them to develop a final list of colleges.
Summer
- Students should write or call colleges to request applications and
catalogs. They can be also be requested through the INTERNET.
- Students should write a draft of their personal statement and begin essays
over the summer.
- Students may want to take the SAT prep class to improve their scores.
- Students should read their college applications to determine if they need
to take the SAT 2.
- Students are able to register for the fall SAT's on-line.
